John Rogers Anderson, CMM, CD (born 1941 in Trail, British Columbia) is a Canadian retired Admiral and civil servant. Anderson was born in BC and attended UBC and graduated with a BSc and attended a Long Operations Officers course. He joined the navy in 1963 and worked his way up the ranks. He was Commanding Officer of HMCS Restigouche, Naval Captain, Commander of the First Canadian Destroyer Squadron, Chief of Staff at the National Defence HQ; Commodore, Director-General of Maritime Doctrine and Operations; Rear-Admiral; Head, Canadian Nuclear Submarine Acquisition Project; Chief of Maritime Doctrine and Operations. In the early 1980s he commanded the Naval Officers' Training Centre, at CFB Esquimalt, Esquimalt, British Columbia, where he was nicknamed "JR" after a popular TV character from the show Dallas. In 1993, Admiral Anderson became Chief of Defence Staff of the Canadian Forces. In 1994, he was appointed Canada’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Brussels, Belgium. In 1989, he was made a Commander of the Order of Military Merit. References
