Cars 2 is a computer-animated 3-D film that will be produced by Pixar Animation Studios and is the sequel of the 2006 film Cars. It will be distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, and is scheduled for release in 2011. Ratatouille producer Brad Lewis takes over from John Lasseter as director.[1] Lasseter mentioned, "This time we’re going international."[2] Cars is the second Pixar film to have a theatrical direct sequel, the first being Toy Story. The film was originally scheduled for 2012, but was pushed forward a year. The movie is the first of two films to be released in 2011 for Pixar, marking the first time that more than one film for Pixar will be released in the same year.[3]

Doc Hudson's voiceover artist Paul Newman died of lung cancer in 2008. Beforehand Lasseter was adamant Newman would return, although he had announced his retirement from acting. Afterwards, Lasseter said they would "see how the story goes with Doc Hudson".[4]
