Robert "Bob" Homme, CM , B.Sc (March 1919 - May 2, 2000) was an American-born television actor perhaps best known as the host of The Friendly Giant, a popular Canadian children's television program from the 1950s through the 1980s which was broadcast on CBC Television.[1] Homme was invested into the Order of Canada as a Member on November 2, 1998 in Grafton, Ont. (Homme being too ill to travel, the Governor General went to him instead of making him come to Rideau Hall, where the award is usually bestowed), allowing him to use the Post Nominal Letters "C.M."[2] He was born in 1919 in Stoughton, Wisconsin, USA and died on May 2, 2000 in Grafton, Ontario, of prostate cancer. Although Homme was known as a giant, he only stood 5 feet 6 inches. The authorized biography of Robert Homme called Look Up - Way Up is based on interviews conducted with Bob after he retired. Links to memorable audio clips are included.
