A typical AMR ambulance

American Medical Response, Inc. (AMR) is the largest private ambulance provider in the United States. AMR and EmCare are wholly owned subsidiaries of EMSC L.P., an emergency management company held by the investment firm Onex [1] AMR is based out of Greenwood Village, Colorado.

AMR is locally operated in 40 states and the District of Columbia. More than 18,500 AMR paramedics, EMTs, RN's and other professionals, with a fleet of 4,200 vehicles, transport nearly four million patients nationwide each year in critical, emergency and non-emergency situations. [2]

AMR participates in a number of community projects and charitable activities. These include the AMR Home for the Holidays program [3]. Home for the Holidays provides nursing home residents with free transportation to the homes of family and friends during the holiday season. Another community service is AMR’s Sentimental Journey program,[4] which provides hospice patients with free ambulance transportation to a destination of their choice to help fulfill a final wish. This innovative program was awarded the 2008 American Business AwardsSM “Stevie Award” for Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program. In addition, AMR paramedics and EMTs across the country have been recognized[5] for their outstanding service and dedication to communities in need. Recently, AMR caregivers received recognition for their bravery and actions during the New Life[6] Church shootings in Colorado Springs, Colo., in 2007.
